NAPLAN & curriculum map
NAPLAN (Years 3 and 5) tests four domains. ONZU gives daily practice for two of them, numeracy and the conventions half of language, and is honest about the rest.
Numeracy
| Australian Curriculum strand | ONZU coverage |
|---|---|
| Number: facts, operations and missing values | Times tables · Number Ninja |
| Number: place value and decimals | Place Value Peaks |
| Number: fractions, decimals and percentages | Fraction Bridge |
| Statistics: reading and interpreting data displays | Data Detective |
| Probability: chance language and simple probability | Chance Lab |
| Measurement: units, perimeter, area and time | Measure Mission |
| Space: grids, coordinates and transformations | Not yet (on the roadmap) |
Conventions of Language
| NAPLAN component | ONZU coverage |
|---|---|
| Spelling (roughly half the test) | All of Spell Quest, including real school word lists |
| Grammar & punctuation | Grammar Guardians · Tricky Twins (homophones) |
What we deliberately don't cover
Reading (passage comprehension) and Writing (extended marked writing) are whole products of their own, done well by others and badly by apps that bolt them on. We'd rather cover two domains properly than four domains thinly.
NSW syllabus mapping
The national alignment above is primary. For NSW families, Years 3-4 also map to Stage 2 ranges and Years 5-6 to Stage 3 in the NSW Mathematics K-10 (2022) syllabus. The adaptive engine still responds to demonstrated mastery, not only a year or stage label.
A note on "NAPLAN prep"
ONZU is daily practice, not test-cramming. The best NAPLAN preparation is fluency built months earlier in ten-minute sessions, which is precisely what spaced repetition is for. March panic-practice is where we'd gently point you back to how the engine works.
