The rewards, honestly
Game mechanics are how we get ten focused minutes a day out of a nine-year-old. Here is exactly how they work, and the lines we decided never to cross.
The deal, in one line: right answers earn, wrong answers never cost. Fast answers and hot streaks earn a bit more.
Coins buy looks, never progress. Pets grow when practice happens and pause when it doesn't. Nothing is ever taken away.
Show me the exact formulas
| Reward | Rule |
|---|---|
| XP per correct answer | 10 base + speed bonus (8 if under 1.5s, 4 under 3s, else 1) + streak bonus (1 per streak step, capped at 12) |
| Coins | 1 per correct answer, +1 for every 5-streak. Transition Quest pays about half that. |
| Wrong answers | Cost nothing. No XP loss, no coin loss, no lives. The item comes back sooner. That's the whole consequence. |
| Ready XP (Transition) | 12 per helpful choice + 2 per best-streak step; 120 per Ready Level |
| Day streak | Complete Math or Spelling practice on consecutive days. Transition Quest never starts, maintains or advances this shared streak. |
| Daily Bonus Challenges | Three per day, drawn from answering questions, getting correct answers, reaching a run streak, spelling words, or playing both Math and Spelling. They pay 15, 18, 20 or 25 Coins. |
Ordinary Coins
Ordinary Coins buy colour themes, avatars and unlockable regular-pet species. Cosmetics only. Coins never buy progress, answers, skips or Celestial Guardians. There are no loot boxes and no timers that expire while you're at school.
Pet Coins and Celestial Guardians
Pet Coins are a separate badge currency, shown as 🐾 inside the Trophy Case. A badge first has to be earned, then its Pet Coins are claimed exactly once. Ordinary Coins and Pet Coins never substitute for each other. Once every regular pet has grown up, three rarer Celestial Guardians open up, bought with Pet Coins only.
Show me the Guardian path rules
The Guardian path: first graduate all 12 regular pet species to Mega. Only then can the child choose a Royal Griffin, Moon Wolf or Star Leviathan. Each costs 180 Pet Coins, prices stay equal, and the child controls the order. An unchosen Guardian stays an egg; its grown form is revealed only as the child raises it. That Guardian must grow to Mega before the next can be chosen. Math and Spelling badges alone can fund all 540 Pet Coins, and only Math and Spelling grow the Guardians. Transition Quest is never required. Completed Guardians take their place on the Trophy Wall.
Pets: the care loop
Finishing real practice earns care items (food from maths, toys from spelling). Pets grow through stages as they're cared for, and a fully grown pet graduates to the Megas Squad poster, then a new egg begins. The care loop exists to convert "I did my practice" into something visible and loved. Pets never get sick, never die, and never nag: neglect simply pauses growth.
The Streak Path
The current unbroken Math-or-Spelling day streak moves along five permanent reward rungs: Spark Trail at 7 days, First Shield at 14, Golden Flame at 30, Second Shield at 60 and Century Aura at 100. A Shield can cover one missed day. If an unshielded run breaks, the live countdown restarts, but earned rung rewards and the best-ever streak remain.
The lines we don't cross
- No punishment mechanics. Wrong answers never remove XP, Coins, Pet Coins or pets. A current streak can reset after an unshielded missed day, but earned Streak Path rewards and the best-ever streak stay.
- No notifications, ever. The app is a pull, not a push. If your child opens it, it's because they wanted to.
- No pay-to-win, no ads, no upsells to children. Real-money purchases never appear inside the child's play loop, and the optional Transition Quest's future purchase model is still undecided.
- Rewards follow effort, not talent. A struggling child answering weak items earns the same streaks and coins as a whiz, because the adaptive engine keeps everyone near their edge, where streaks are earnable but not automatic.
